Registrar of companies also known as ROC is the office set up under the company law. It works as per the Companies Act of 2013. Its main work is to look after the companies like Private Limited Company, Public Limited Company, LLPs, One Person Company, Section 8 Company etc. as they are registered through the Registrar of companies its responsibility is to ensure that they are following the company law and working under the ambit of the same law. No corporate body is allowed to work beyond the company law. There is a law incorporated for these bodies which must be followed. Ignorance of this law can result in fines and penalties. Hence one must be extra continuous about the same.
What is the Registrar of Companies?
Registrars of Companies (ROC) are like official offices in different states and Union Territories responsible for registering and overseeing companies and LLPs. They have been appointed under the Section 609 of the Companies Act. Their main job is to make sure these businesses follow the rules of the Companies Act. They keep records of all the companies registered in their area, and anyone can look at these records if they pay the required fee. The Central Government oversees these offices through Regional Directors to make sure they are doing their job properly. It is not necessary that all the states have different Registrar of Companies. In India roughly there are 20 Registrar of Companies. They are situated in different parts of India. For every state and union territory there is one registrar. Now you must be confused if there are a total of 20 registrar of companies then how it is possible that all the states and union territories are having their separate ROC in India. Registrar of Companies Government Portal
There is an official portal of the Registrar of Companies that is MCA. Through this portal one can register a company for any state or Union Territory of India. It is a platform which is uniform for all the states. Here one can register companies, file complaints, change the address of the company, add directors etc. In short everything related to companies from incorporation to filing of compliances to alteration in the company can be done through this portal.
